چکیده
The study was carried out during the free-flying period. Pairs share incubation between two sexes. In observations made 2013 and 2015 (n=79 in day). Females incubated for 177.08 minutes per day on average while males 240.99 day. This period is statistically different (P< 0.0001) withmales staying 23-32% longer than females. stayed together only a short time. According to made(n=79), couples stay nests 20.52 average. During all long it realized that eggs are left alone 0.40 average.Incubation periods did not vary according years. (n=100) nest were of years 2014 (P>0.05). (n=128) (n=88) results no statistical difference could be observed (P >0.05).The excess protected by northern bald ibises which does have any (altruism). Mate Recognition and Expression of Affective State in Croop Calls of Northern Bald Ibis (Geronticus eremita)
Northern Bald Ibis are socially monogamous and year-round colonial birds with a moderate repertoire of calls. Their 'croop', for example, is used during greeting of mates, but also during agonistic encounters, and provides an ideal case to study whether calls are revealing with respect to motivational states. We recorded croop calls in a semi-tame and free-roaming flock of Northern Bald Ibis in...
متن کاملEnergy Expenditure and Metabolic Changes of Free-Flying Migrating Northern Bald Ibis
Many migrating birds undertake extraordinary long flights. How birds are able to perform such endurance flights of over 100-hour durations is still poorly understood. We examined energy expenditure and physiological changes in Northern Bald Ibis Geronticus eremite during natural flights using birds trained to follow an ultra-light aircraft. Because these birds were tame, with foster parents, we...
متن کاملPreliminary evidence of behavioral lateralization in the Northern Bald Ibis Geronticus eremita
Laterality is a preference for employing one side of the body when engaging in a certain behaviors or mental processes. Evidence of laterality has been obtained in numerous species (for review see Rogers & Andrew 2002, Vallortigara & Rogers 2005), and it has been suggested that such side preferences may be related to various aspects of mental (e.g. van der Hoorn et al. 2010) and physical (e.g. ...
متن کاملIsolation of Microsatellite Loci by Next-Generation Sequencing of the Critically Endangered Northern Bald Ibis, Geronticus eremita.
The Northern Bald Ibis is one of the rarest bird species, extinct in Europe for 400 years and critically endangered worldwide. The European Union-co-financed LIFE+ project "Reason for Hope - Reintroduction of the Northern Bald Ibis in Europe" aims to reintroduce the species in Europe (Germany, Austria, Italy). In order to obtain information on the genetic diversity within zoo colonies and the r...
متن کاملSeasonal differences of corticosterone metabolite concentrations and parasite burden in northern bald ibis (Geronticus eremita): The role of affiliative interactions
The reproductive season is energetically costly as revealed by elevated glucocorticoid concentrations, constrained immune functions and an increased risk of infections. Social allies and affiliative interactions may buffer physiological stress responses and thereby alleviate associated effects. In the present study, we investigated the seasonal differences of immune reactive corticosterone meta...
